Target Task
What is a Target Task?
The Target Task feature is a powerful planning tool that lets you set a specific quest as your end goal, and EFT Kappa will automatically prioritize and recommend tasks that lead you toward that goal.
Why Use Target Tasks?
Most Tarkov players have heard of the Kappa container, and many tools simply mark which tasks are "Kappa Required." But what if your goals are different? What if you want to:
- Unlock Lightkeeper as quickly as possible?
- Access specific trader levels for better gear?
- Complete The Punisher quest line for the Epsilon container?
- Reach a particular milestone like Level 4 traders or Bitcoin Farm?
The Target Task feature helps you achieve ANY quest-related goal efficiently by:
- Automatically calculating which prerequisite tasks you need
- Prioritizing your task order based on your goal
- Filtering views to show only relevant tasks
- Tracking your progress toward your specific objective
Example: Unlocking Lightkeeper
Let's say you want to unlock Lightkeeper early in a wipe. You'll need to complete Network Provider - Part 1, but this task has many prerequisites. Simply set your Target Task to "Network Provider - Part 1" and EFT Kappa will:
- Calculate the entire prerequisite chain
- Show you exactly which tasks to complete first
- Prioritize tasks in the optimal order
- Update your Dashboard with the most important tasks
How to Set Your Target Task
You can change your Target Task from several locations in the application:
From the Dashboard
- Navigate to the Dashboard page
- Look for the Target Task section in the header
- Click the dropdown menu showing your current target (e.g., "Collector")
- Select your new target task from the list
- The page will update immediately to reflect your new goal
From the Profile Page
- Navigate to the Profile page via the user icon in the top-right
- Find the Character section
- Locate the Target Task dropdown under the character details
- Select your desired target task
- Click Save to apply the change
When Creating a Character
When you first create a profile or add a new character, you'll be prompted to select an initial Target Task. This helps establish your progression goals from the start.
How Target Task Affects the Application
Once you set a Target Task, it influences multiple areas of the application:
Dashboard
- What To Do Next: Tasks are prioritized based on their relevance to your target
- Upcoming Keys: Shows keys needed for tasks leading to your target
- Upcoming Items: Displays items required for your target's prerequisite chain
- Task Counter: Shows "X Tasks Remaining" to reach your target goal
Task Graph
- Show Only Target Tasks toggle: When enabled, filters the graph to display only your target task and its prerequisites
- Visual Highlighting: Tasks required for your target are outlined/highlighted for easy identification
- Simplified View: Reduces clutter by hiding irrelevant tasks
Task List
- Priority Column: Values are calculated with your target task in mind
- Required Column: Indicates if a task is required for your target
- Sorting: Default sort order favors tasks leading to your target
Task Item List
- Filter by Target Task toggle: Shows only items needed for tasks leading to your target
- Prioritized Display: Items are ordered by their importance to your progression path
Raid Planner
- Tasks and objectives leading to your target are prioritized in the raid planning view
Target Task Priority Algorithm
Behind the scenes, EFT Kappa uses a sophisticated priority algorithm that factors in:
- Distance from your target (prerequisite depth)
- Character level requirements
- Experience rewards
- Current active tasks
- Task dependencies and blocking
This ensures you're always working on the most efficient path to your goal.
